Brothers: A Novel by Da Chen

This book first sparked my interest because it was about China and since I'm going there in two weeks and in general I love East Asian Literature. Yet, after starting this book I found the plot complex and quite the adventure. As it continues to draw you in and you grow fond of the characters in particular I grew quite fond of Shento the brother who had the somewhat sadder fate in this book. There is a romance also delicately placed in this novel and cleverly. My only problems with this book is it was quite graphic for me and also a little over the top. It felt like I was reading a book based off some type of Chinese Drama, which I've seen many, so that feeling of watching a drama didn't go away after reading this. Overall, I would give this book 3 stars out of 5 as it was entertaining and complex, but didn't have enough to motivate me to reccommend this to others.
